The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services ("CMS") has released new Medicare Part B premium and deductible numbers for 2022. Unfortunately, 2022 will see some of the more significant increases in recent history.
Medicare Part B Premium in 2022
In 2021, the Medicare Part B premium was $148.50. CMS will increase the Part B premium by just over $20 in 2022 to $170.10. This is a rather significant increase and due, in part, to the planned 2021 increase being reduced as part of COVID relief.
Medicare Part B Deductible in 2022
The annual deductible for Medicare Part B will be $233 in 2022. Again, this is a larger increase than is typical. Previous annual increases tended to be in the single digits, whereas 2022 will see an increase of $30. The Medicare Part B deductible is not covered by any Medicare Supplement plan that is currently available to newly-eligible Medicare enrollees. Medigap Plan F covers the Part B deductible, but is only available to those who were Medicare-eligible prior to January 2020.
